Logan has loved water once he got mobile.  Once he could get around a bit on his own he discovered Tips’ water bowl and outside he found Tips’ other water bowl.  He loves his bath and today he I had to take him out kicking and screaming after a half hour.  With this bath is he doesn’t like the water very warm so after a little while Octo says its too cold for the boy, I have a feeling he would stay in that tub all day if I let him.

On Sunday when he was playing with Grandma and Grandpa, he found water.  I think John showed him the spigot on the deck but then he wouldn’t leave it.

this is something different to me

This was happening when I was getting dirty in the garden so when I came out, Logan was soaking wet because he wouldn’t stop putting his hands out trying to catch the drops.  Then at some point Chris got into the action and there was water everywhere.

this is only going to be trouble

trouble

After this I expected to be dragged out to the hose every day, but either he doesn’t associate me with the hose or he forgot about it, he hasn’t even come close.  When the garden is up and going (fingers crossed), he will have to help me water since Chris has already said he isn’t watering anything this year.

Speaking of my garden, I just bought a few seedlings so I am ready!  (I also bought Miracle Grow because I am using every advantage I can get)  I think the only plants I am doing from seeds this year are sunflowers.  I started the kit my mom gave me and I just bought a packet and will start those this weekend too.  The sunflowers usually get eaten by birds and chipmunks, I’ve found many heads knawed off on the sidewalk (sigh),  they have a short life at our house, so the more the merrier!

Logan Finds Water

tulip remains

My mother is always checking to see if I am being creative, and I have been saying, no, other than taking pictures of Logan.  But the other night when I came home at 12:30ish, I noticed the tulips from my anniversary present had shed so instead of just tossing them in the garbage, I arranged them on the counter and got my camera.

I purposely didn’t add any extra light and wanted a long exposure to get as much color in as possible.  Its not an award winning photo but I liked it a lot at 12:30.  And after looking at it again, I still like it.  It is much better on the big screen of Logan’s, I mean Heather’s, no wait…it’s still my computer, I just only get to use it after midnight.

Don't let go!

This morning Logan was getting a little clingy, throwing himself on my leg so Chris put him on top of the refrigerator.  It worked.  The boy has no fear.

I like it up here!

So since storytime will be on pause for a couple of months I’ve decided to have Heather bring Noah on Mondays.  Noah is 2 1/2 and does talk but apparently signs more.  The idea is to get Logan a little more used to kids and get him to play and hopefully in his interactions – talk.  I’m not saying this idea is perfect, obviously we have a nap issue in there but where else am I going to find a free kid??  And if Logan refuses to nap then we can always go back to being Noah-free, but I do want to try this at least a couple of times.  Heather is really excited and she knows the goal so fingers crossed the boys will have fun.

Plan B

I brought Logan to the Bounce Around today.  When we went a couple of weeks ago, he did ok, he just didn’t seem to like the bounce houses…which I know is why we were there.  Today there weren’t too many kids there, he could go in any one he wanted so I put him in one shaped like a shark since that was the one he wanted to go in before.  He walked in and then slid back out.  Then he walked around and went into another one that was probably too old for him but there was another girl in it and I think that was the attraction.  But she got scared or something and came back down the steps instead of going down the slide and I think that confused him so he got down too.  And back out.

I think I go up here

Besides the bounce houses there are a few video games and rides you have to pay for.  Logan liked all the lights of the video games and went from one to another trying to reach for anything he could get his little hands on.

I put him in a couple of the rides so he could pretend to drive.  He seems to like that but what he really really really loved was riding the carousel.

this ride is AWESOME!!!

The first time he went on the carousel he just sat there, and since I forgot to press record on my phone I eagerly fed more tokens in so I would have this precious moment saved forever.

He loved it!  He kept going back to the carousel banging his hands on it saying he wanted to ride over and over.  Since it costs a dollar a ride, I did let him go three times and he hopped on another ride with two other girls so he went 4 times.  At one point he was bopping his head, very happy.  He was in a good mood the whole time we were there, no temper tantrums so throwing himself down, he just ran around from flashing light to flashing light.

Storytime is almost over at the library, there might be something in the summer but so far nothing is posted on the website.  Anyways, today Logan and I packed up and headed out in the rain.  Logan doesn’t care about rain, he still walks on his own completely unfazed by the wetness around him.

Storytime is 15 minutes of books and songs, then 15 minutes of toys and I suppose Mommy-time.  I have yet to have successful Mommy-time other than with a 20 year old nanny, I guess its a start.  However Logan is rocking  toy-time.  He sometimes dances during the songs but during the stories he mostly around sometimes with his mouth open (and shirt up but today I purposely put him in a onsie) or looks outside.  Today he also took off his shoes while running around the semi circle and stopped at the various “x” tape marks on the floor.  I’m not sure what they are for but he showed great interest in them, stopping at one and touching it then running back to me.  During toy-time he danced a lot and talked to the other kids then picked up the puzzles he was working on and put them back in the box when it was time to clean up.  He walked into the main library himself and over to the kids section where most of the other kids went.  There are fish and puzzles over there and also the videos that I have been renting for him.  He started out with a puzzle but suddenly saw the fish and really really wanted to watch them.  He also shared a puzzle with a boy who was probably 2 1/2.  They both put together a shape puzzle without any fuss, I was impressed.  I was also able to get new videos and an audiobook out for myself without a single tantrum.

He was very happy to walk out of the library himself and was surprised to find something new – his reflection.

I see something down there

I had no idea what he was looking for at first, then when I bent down to see, I saw what he saw - his shadow, not quite his full reflection.  He kept bending down completely enamored.

I'm funny!

I eventually had to pick him up since I don’t think he ever would have left on his own.  He wasn’t upset leaving either, he was very good today.

I was worried about what would happen when Heather came and I had to leave.  We were playing with his keyboard in his room when Heather came and he didn’t get upset.  I was able to change into work clothes before he realized something was up.  He sat on the floor in my closet room with his blankies and cried.  I told him I would see him later but it was time for Momma to go to work and he kept crying.  I know he doesn’t understand logic yet but if I keep repeating its time for Momma to go to work, eventually (hopefully) he’ll catch on.

I'm hugging Elmo for comfort

Unfortunately I didn’t get to have dinner with Chris and Logan tonight since Chris had to work late but with my awesome new phone I can video chat with them.  Its not the perfect solution but at least we all got to see each other for a few minutes.

I want the cookie Daddy

For Mother’s Day Logan gave me gift certificates for the car wash and a cover for my new iphone, but I will have to pick that out because Chris was a little overwhelmed with the selection (they went together).  I need the car wash certificates because there is a bird who we think is trying to nest in the eaves of the house and is getting a little territorial which means – it is bombing my car, the driveway and the sidewalk in front of the house.  Whatever the story is – my car is covered in poop.  So those will get used rather quickly.

Mother’s Day started out similar to most Sundays.  I should back up a little bit and say after Logan’s adventure to Grammy’s he needed a bath Saturday night, which is supposed to relax him.  I thought it would even though he usually gets his bath in the morning, but it didn’t.  He played in the tub, got out and put on his jammies and had his bottle then turned into baby playing monster and didn’t go to bed until 11pm.  Even then I sat on the couch curled up holding my feet with the volume on the tv barely audible so as to not give him a reason to start crying.  He was still wide awake at 11, he had just stopped moving as much.  He fell asleep soon enough and I was able to move freely again in my own house enough to pick up his tornado of toys so the cat wouldn’t get them at 3am and wake us all up.

So Sunday morning he slept a little later, 9:15ish, maybe 9:30 and was in a good mood.  He ate his breakfast no problem and we headed to church.  He screamed bloody murder when he knew he was going to be ripped away from me, I gave the helper instructions (blankie, hold him, balls and pool) as I handed him to her.  She remembered him and seemed really happy to see him…but 10 minutes later I was called back.  He wasn’t outside the classroom waiting for me, but he wasn’t calming down very well.  He was crying so bad he wasn’t catching his breath they were afraid he would throw up.  I assured them he doesn’t throw up, but yes, when he does get upset he does take a long time to calm down.  I looked in the class and someone was carrying him around while everyone else was playing.  She said he needs undivided attention and they weren’t really sure what to do, she felt like they were running out of options.  She asked if he was in daycare and I said no, she asked if he did play dates and I said no.  She said she had some options for me, but she was interrupted by another classroom suddenly running down the hall.  And our conversation was cut short.  I went back to the service since he seemed happy at that moment and he stayed but was crying when I went to pick him up since I wasn’t the first one at the door, and he got scared.  I was the second but his tears were already flowing.  He did make me a nice scribble picture which will go in his scrapbook, as soon as I have the time to get that going.

We did get our picture taken at church, that was a free perk the church offered, when I get the picture(s) I will post one.  Logan felt better and he fell asleep in the car.  On the drive home I asked Chris what my special lunch was, he didn’t know what I was talking about.  I said you told your mother I was getting a special lunch since she was picking out dinner.  I don’t think he totally remembered that but at a stop light he asked if I wanted Taco Bell.  I looked at him like he was crazy since he doesn’t like Taco Bell and said, ok.  Later he told his parents I had Taco Bell as my special lunch, I just didn’t know I wanted it.

Chris woke Logan up after two hours, thats Chris’ new thing.  Since Logan has been taking three hour naps he hasn’t been going to bed as easily or early so Chris is limiting his nap time.  So far its a toss up, Logan was outside for about 3-4 hours playing with everyone, plus playing and eating with everyone later and still didn’t go to bed until almost 10 on Sunday.  Monday Heather woke him up after 2 hours and he had been playing outside with me in the morning for an hour and a half, ate all his dinner, had a snack later and went to bed at 9:30.  The kid is a machine.

Anyways, back to Mother’s Day, I finally had a chance to weed some of the yard.  Debbie thinks I’m crazy to enjoy weeding but I really do.  I weeded the front, dug up a place for sunflowers, even though that will probably have to be re-weeded by the time they are ready to go in the ground.  I planted the rose bush we got for Easter and weeded the side and started weeding the side garden by the garage.  I got a lot done but still have some more to get going even with the abbreviated gardens this year.  It was a good day, the grandparents got to spend time with the boy and I got to spend time outside.  I will post pictures of the boy outside later, they are at home on that computer and I am toiling away at work.

I whipped up a pecan pie for Debbie.  I even made the crust, which is still a work in progress….someday I will be able to make a flaky non-sticking crust.  It tasted good and no, Logan didn’t eat the pie, but he did eat the whipped cream.  I gave him a taste from the beater while he was watching a video then he came out and had more on his cookie.

this is way yummy

Apparently he really really liked the whipped cream.

this is good stuff

finger lickin' good

He ate a couple of cookies then was done and went back to play, because as I’ve said, he is a playing machine.  He was very funny on Sunday and of course, super cute.  Debbie was able to finish cutting his hair so his bangs are no longer in danger of poking him in his eyes.  He looks so good we are going to try and get his picture professionally done this weekend.  Fingers crossed he’s in a good mood because if he is - he gets ice cream after!

Mother’s Day

Grammy lives here

My mom moved to a new place last year and on Saturday Logan and I visited her at her place for the first time.  She lives in senior apartments so they are all one level which gives everyone plenty of space, the back and front areas are very nice and quiet.  We walked Logan down to the pond but once he was told he couldn’t get in the pond he wanted nothing to do with it.  Then we went back and let him play in dirt – this made him very happy.

I like dirt

I really like dirt clumps

dirt is really fun, who cares if it gets in my diaper

My mom had a firetruck for him which he happily pushed around the walkway and he was able to roam freely without any cars around.

roaming free

I don’t know how many other cats Logan has really seen besides Pretty.  Obviously with Pretty, he can touch her or try and catch her whenever he wants.  My mom has a cat a little bigger than Pretty named Molly.  It took Molly a few visits to warm up to me and wasn’t so sure about Logan.  Logan on the other hand loved Molly from first sight, he just didn’t understand that she didn’t love him.

Molly Molly Molly Molly Molly Molly, come heeeeeere

In that picture Molly had been jumping up to the screen which was making Logan laugh.  He wanted her to keep jumping but she didn’t.

Logan had a good time also throwing his ball around, and sitting at the picnic table.  We’ll have to plan to visit on another nice day so he can explore a little more of the yard and maybe we’ll see a duck or goose.

Logan did pretty well at dinner.  We went to Old Country Buffet and I gave him his regular food and some crunchy things for salad, which he did not touch.  I also tried melon and that stayed in his little bowl.  What did he eat off the salad bar??  Raisins, the same raisins I also had in his bag.  Oh, I forgot he did eat a banana piece my mom gave him….but he eats bananas at home.

My mom had told me she was going to a talent show at her church after dinner and since Logan was still in a good mood I thought we would try it.  I warned her that Logan would rush the stage and she said she didn’t think there was an actual stage.  I thought, that probably doesn’t matter….and I was right.

When we got there I changed his dirt filled diaper and the hostess was singing.  Sure enough the boy only sat in his seat for about 20 seconds before the spotlight called to him.  He went up to the singers and watched, then since I sat on the floor next to the front row, he sat with me, then went back and forth between dancing and sitting.  My mom read 4 poems next, and Logan couldn’t resist.

The first three poems:

The last poem:

anniversary flowers

Today is our 3rd anniversary and I mentioned before how its pretty much a regular work day for both of us so I was super surprised to walk into work and be told the box of flowers behind her was for me!  I was like – me??  And I opened it up to find those tulips!  There was also a box of chocolates in with the flowers, the ones I ate were very yummy.

We exchanged cards in the morning before Chris left for work since he wasn’t sure if he would be home for lunch and I told him his present was downstairs in the freezer.  He was very happy to find bacon wrapped meat waiting for him.  Bacon wrapped meat was my interpretation of leather, which apparently is the third anniversary present theme.

la la la la, la la la, Elmo's World!

Logan’s separation anxiety has gotten better and worse.  He did well at church on Sunday when I dropped him off; the helper said he got upset when other kids came to the door but overall he calmed down and played happily.   Then at home on Monday and Tuesday it was horrible leaving because he was so upset – tears, screaming – all things bad.  Monday he had already napped, Tuesday he was over tired which made it all worse, so today I tried something different.

I was hoping today Logan would nap after lunch so we wouldn’t have a repeat of the previous days but he wouldn’t.  He doesn’t get super mad and throw his blankies out of his crib like he used to, he just sits in his crib and cries, which makes it harder to see when I go in and get him.

Heather tip-toed in today because she thought Logan was asleep, but I was just putting in a video for him since he was still upset about being put in his crib too soon.  I was talking him through the start of the video since it takes a minute to load, etc.  He was transfixed on the screen and didn’t notice Heather come in at all.  Once it started he didn’t budge and Heather sat behind him, out of his sight.

I was almost ready for work and was able to finish up and get out before he noticed I was gone.  When I am at work, I can leave Chris’ car with no problem, I even wave bye-bye and he smiles, but thats what we have always done so that doesn’t seem to upset him.  Its when I leave home that gets him going.  Today Elmo did the trick, we’ll see what happens tomorrow.

whaaat's up - I'm chillin' with the 'Mo

***********

That is Logan’s new chair.  We gave it to him on Saturday after much searching and debating.  The boy needed a seat of his own on his level so I gave in and bought him a Cars rocking chair.  Cars was just the design that was there, we haven’t seen the movie yet.  So far he seems to really like having his own space.  Of course when he gets in one of his super silly moods, we have to remind him that he doesn’t climb into his chair by standing on his head.

Elmo to the Rescue

Chris is starting up a long string of weekend gigs so last Saturday was one of our last Saturdays free.  I suggested we take the boy to the Bounce Around, a bounce house place in the mall where there are bounce houses specifically for kids his age.

safety first, we all got matching wrist bands

We thought Logan would love it since he loves to (sort of) jump around the house.  What he does love is to throw himself down on our bed and roll around on the pillows.  What he doesn’t love is the bounce house for his age.

I look like I am loving this...

but I'm not

So we took Logan out of the bounce house, and he was off…

I must get out

I must run

He was happiest running around.  Then he ran out of the store and wanted to run outside.  So Chris packed him up and we left the mall and went to The Crossings, which is a really nice park in Colonie.

We hit the swings first, and Logan wasn’t exactly a fan.

death grip

It took quite a bit of convincing but Logan loosened up and even had some fun on the swings.  (Apparently this was after Chris told me to put away my camera, so no having fun pics)

After the swings Logan hit the sandbox!

this sand stuff is cool

He didn’t play with those buckets, those were being used by someone else but we did find a free boat which turned into a scoop.  And we scooped and scooped and scooped until we could scoop no more.

Then we were going to go back to the car but Logan wanted to wander so he checked out a pavilion, where there were the most awesome rocks ever.

these rocks rock!

Then Logan got a little carried away.  Something caught his eye and I first thought it was the group of walkers coming along the pathway…

hey peeps - what's up?

peeps - wait for me!

But he actually didn’t want to hang with the crowd, he wanted to follow the fence.  Thats right, my boy spotted the fence and wanted to follow it – as far as it would go, so you can imagine how happy he was when I picked him up to bring him back.  He kicked and screamed but was happy once he saw his Daddy.

I think that park is worth traveling to again.  It is farther than Washington Park but it may be worth the time on super nice days, plus there is a pond with ducks which he didn’t even see yet.
